Five Signs Your Car AC Needs Steam Cleaning

That smell when you first turn on the AC is not the gas. It is what is growing on the evaporator.

People book a regas when what they actually need is steam cleaning. Here is how to tell the difference.

1. A musty smell on start-up

The classic sign. The smell is strongest in the first thirty seconds, then fades as the ducts clear. That is bacteria and mould on a damp evaporator core, not a refrigerant problem.

2. Sneezing or itchy eyes in the car

If your passengers react in the car and nowhere else, you are circulating spores through the cabin every trip.

3. Weak airflow with normal cooling

Air that is cold but does not push hard usually means a clogged cabin filter or a fouled evaporator, not a compressor fault.

4. Condensation smell after rain

Humidity feeds whatever is already growing. If the smell gets worse in the rainy season, it is biological.

5. It has never been done

Most cars on the road have never had the AC system steam cleaned. If yours is over three years old and has not been treated, it is due.

What the service involves

We steam clean the evaporator and duct system, purge the vents, and check the cabin filter. It takes about forty-five minutes and the difference is immediate.
